Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

Teacher - Mr Oliver Parsons

Learning Support Assistant: Mrs Hebba Zein and Elizabeth Anouf

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Heroida Mahmutaj

Note to be read to children:

Dear everyone,

I know this may seem strange and a bit different to you at the moment and it is alright to feel worried or sad. For the time being the school will be closed because of that nasty Mrs Coronavirus, but you will carry on with your learning at home and I will still be your teacher. I will be working every day to plan lessons for you, help you and answer any questions you have. I won’t be far away, I will be working at my desk and thinking lots about you all.

I will be setting weekly home learning on a Monday for you to complete every day. You need to make sure you keep to a daily routine, get up at the same time every morning and follow our Year 2 timetable. You will still be working and learning, but from home!

You may want to set up a work desk in your house, if you have a table and chair. You can keep all your work together. You might also like to write out your own timetable to stick up on your wall – remember our Year 2 daily timetable. Don’t worry about Collective Worship:

09.00 – 10.00 – English

10.00 – 10.45 – Phonics

10.45 – 11. 00 – Break

11.00 – 12.00 – Maths

12.00 – 1.00 – Lunch

1.00 – 1.45 – Reading

1.45 – 3.00 – Topic/Art/RE/Handwriting

3.00 – 3.30 – Exercises (star jumps, running on the spot etc.)

Take care and I will be in sending more work soon.

Mr Parsons, Ms Mahmutaj, Ms Zein and Ms Anouf

Note for parents:

If you need to contact me about any queries with the task you can so on my email oparsons@stap.org.uk. I will be available from 8.30-4.30pm. If you email after these hours, I will seek to reply to your email the following day. Where appropriate, answers to questions in Maths will be uploaded every Friday and other subjects where possible so children can mark their work. Please look at the class page regularly for updates on tasks as these will be updated weekly. Children will be expected to complete all tasks within this pack however, I understand that access may be limited. If these issues arise, please just email me. Finally, I would like to say a huge thank you in advance for the support you are going to give during these challenging times. I want to reassure you that I am at the end of an email to offer support and advice to both children and parents.

Best wishes,

Mr Parsons

 🐣 Easter Holiday 🐣

Friday 3rd April 2020

We won’t be setting any home learning packs for the two week Easter holiday. The next home learning pack will be put online on Monday 20th April.

In the meantime, please catch up with the first two home learning packs from Weeks 5 and 6. Log on to your Bug Club account and make sure you are reading a book every day or two. Also log on to your Times Tables Rockstars and Numbots accounts to practise your maths. I have emailed all of you your login details earlier this week. If you still haven’t got them or are having problems then please email me on oparsons@stap.org.uk

Other ideas to keep you busy over Easter include:

  • taking part in Joe Wicks’ daily workout
  • writing a story about a magic adventure
  • writing a letter of thanks to a nurse or doctor for all their hard work
  • designing your own Easter egg using a real boiled egg
  • going on an Easter egg hunt around your home
  • sending an Easter card or message to a family member or friend
  • looking at all the websites I have put links to on our class page
  • writing out as many times tables are you know on a poster for your bedroom wall

Finally, make a 🌈 rainbow 🌈 picture to put in your window at home to show your support and thanks to our key workers. Feel free to send me a picture of it.

Have a lovely, if unusual, Easter break.

Stay safe,

Mr Parsons

Work of the Week

Friday 27th March, 2020

Dear parents and children,

I would love to see the fantastic work that is taking place at home! Please email photos of the work that your children are most proud of, by Thursday each week. I will be picking out a few examples each week, that will then be published on the school website. I can't wait to hear from all of you!

Bug Club, Times Tables Rockstars and Numbots Access

Monday 23rd March 2020

Dear parents,

If you haven’t already picked up your child’s home learning pack with their login details, please email me directly at oparsons@stap.org.uk to ask for your child’s Bug Club and Times Tables Rockstars login details. The Times Table Rockstars login will also work for Numbots. Please tell me your child’s name in the email.

Bug Club is a key website to use daily. It allows your child to read a book at home everyday, I have already allocated the correct reading book level to each child. The link to Bug Club is listed below. You will need your child’s username, the password which is password and then the code rtmg.

Times Tables Rockstars allows your child to practise their timetables, starting with 1x, 2x, 5x and 10x this week. The link to the site is listed below. The first time you go on you will need to go to Login, School, Student and then find the school using the postcode, NW6 5XA. You will then need your child’s username and password.

Numbots is another site created by the Time Tables Rockstars company. It allows children to practise their addition and subtraction, with a starting focus on number bonds. The first time you go on you will need to go to Login, School, Student and then find the school using the postcode, NW6 5XA. You will then need your child’s username and password (the same one as Times Table Rockstars).

All websites might be slow at times, especially during school hours, as millions of children across the country will be trying to log on. Keep trying as some periods are better than others.

Best wishes and stay safe,

Mr Parsons
