School Reopening Letter

Friday 29th May 2020

School Reopening Plan

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you and your family are safe and well.

Following the Government announcement yesterday, I can confirm that we will be beginning a phased reopening of the school for certain year groups from Monday 1st June.  Over the first two weeks of June, the school will begin to open to children in Reception, Y1 and Y6, along with the children of key workers and vulnerable children in other year groups.

The safety of our community has been the primary concern in all aspects of our planning and we have been reviewing our practices, policies and provision to ensure that we can operate as safely as possible and within the guidelines set out by the government. This includes carrying out a thorough risk assessment, which has been approved by Westminster City Council. The risk assessment has been emailed to all parents and is also available to view on the school website.

The school day will look very different from what we have been used to, as will the start and end of the day. It is very clear that we will need your help in managing these changes. It is extremely important that the whole school community understands what we all need to do to keep everyone safe. For this reason, we will be calling parents of all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 who will be returning to school to explain the changes and how you can help.  It will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions. We hope that this will help to alleviate some of your concerns and enable you to prepare your children for their return to school.

Today, an email will be sent to all parents of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 with the plans and arrangements for reopening the school in a phased and staggered return.

As I explained in my previous letter, we will continue to provide support for home learning for those children who will not be returning to school in the first phase of reopening and will keep in contact with all families via emails and phone calls.

I know that some parents have concerns about their children returning to school and would like to remind you that the guidance states that it is not compulsory to send your child into school at this time. This is a decision that only you as a family can make according to your personal circumstances and what you believe is appropriate. Please be assured that we will support whatever decision you make and that, whilst schools remain closed to some pupils, no parent will be penalised for not sending their child to school. Please call to discuss any questions or concerns that you have with me or with other members of the SLT.

I really look forward to welcoming children back into school from next week.

Yours sincerely,

Ruth Vince,

Head of Primary
