Message from the Head of Primary
As the school year draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the school community for making me feel so welcome during my first year at St Augustine’s.
Joining a new school isn’t always easy - whether as a pupil or member of staff - and certainly not as a Headteacher! However, the support that you, your children and the whole school community have given me over the year has been fantastic and you have really made me feel part of the St Augustine’s family. I look forward to working together for many years to come to make sure that every child at St Augustine’s is able to realise our school vision and be the best that they can be.
I am of course, very sad that I won’t be able to thank all of you in person for your kindness and support this year and that, due to lockdown, we are not ending the year together as a school. However, these are unprecedented times and we have all had to adapt to a novel situation. Thank you for the way in which you have supported your children’s learning and for helping them to keep in touch with their classmates and teachers through emails and Zoom meetings. I know that this has meant a great deal to both the staff and the children.
Although it was wonderful to be able to invite some children back at the start of June to join the children of key workers who had been in school throughout lockdown, I am really looking forward to September when all children will be returning to school. In preparation for this, please make sure that your child continues to read and write across the holidays, as those children who read, write and learn their mathematical facts come back stronger and ready to learn in September. Also, please check term dates on the next page so that you know when we return to school.
Sadly, we won’t be able to say goodbye to all of our Year 6 pupils in person, but I hope that they will come back to visit us and share stories about their new schools with us.
Finally, I hope that you and your family have a wonderful summer and that you are able to get out and about, whether around London, or further afield. I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 7th September, ready for our new school year together.
September School Opening
I am really pleased to be able to reassure you that the school will be open to all children in every year group from Monday 7th September. Children in Years 1-6 will return on Monday 7th September and children in the Reception and Nursery classes over the following week.
As a school, we will be doing everything we can to ensure the safety of children and staff, as we always do. We have had a very successful reopening to half of our year groups (alongside the children of key workers) over this half term and feel very well-prepared to welcome back all children for the new school year. I will be providing more detailed information before the end of the summer holiday. Please remember to check the school website regularly
